      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Francesco Feo's "San Francesco di Sales," a remarkable two-part oratorio that showcases the composer's skill and imagination. This 2018 release on the Glossa label is a testament to Feo's ability to craft intricate and expressive works, particularly in his orchestral writing.

The album features a stellar cast of performers, including Monica Piccinini, Delphine Galou, and Luca Tittoto, accompanied by the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Fabio Biondi. Their collective talent brings to life the ornate da capo arias that require both fine voices and strong vocal techniques, making this a truly impressive listening experience.

Comprising 38 tracks and spanning over two hours, this double-CD set is a substantial and engaging exploration of Feo's work. The oratorio, first performed in Bologna in 1734, reflects on the life and work of Saint Francis de Sales, the inspirational Catholic Bishop of Geneva. Feo's score, while not on the level of Bach and Handel, is a notable achievement in its own right, offering a rich and rewarding journey through the Baroque period.

Whether you're a seasoned enthusiast of Baroque music or a newcomer looking to explore the genre, "San Francesco di Sales" is an excellent addition to your collection. Fabio Biondi's direction and the outstanding performances by the soloists and orchestra make this a standout release that highlights the enduring appeal of this often-overlooked composer.
