Fazil Say: Violin Works - Fazıl Say

      Album Details

Fazil Say, the renowned Turkish pianist and composer, presents a captivating collection of his violin works in this 2020 release on the Naxos label. Spanning a little over an hour and ten minutes, this album showcases Say's unique blend of classical and Turkish musical influences, offering a rich and diverse listening experience.

The album features a selection of Say's violin sonatas, including his Violin Sonata No. 1, Op. 7, and Violin Sonata No. 2, Op. 82 "Mount Ida". The latter is a three-movement work that explores themes of nature and hope, with movements titled "Decimation of Nature," "Wounded Bird," and "Rite of Hope." The Violin Sonata No. 1, Op. 7, on the other hand, is a five-movement work that delves into a range of emotions, from melancholy to grotesque, and even includes a playful "Perpetuum mobile."

In addition to the sonatas, the album also includes Say's Violin Concerto, Op. 25 "1001 Nights in the Harem," a four-movement work that draws inspiration from the exotic and sensual world of the harem. The concerto is a showcase of Say's virtuosic skills as both a composer and a performer, with its intricate melodies and rhythms.

Throughout the album, Say is joined by the talented violinist Friedemann Eichhorn, whose expressive playing brings Say's compositions to life. The chemistry between the two musicians is evident in their nuanced performances, making this album a true collaboration between composer and performer.

Whether you're a fan of classical music or simply looking to explore new musical territories, Fazil Say's Violin Works is an album that promises to delight and inspire. With its diverse range of compositions and expert performances, this album is a testament to Say's enduring talent and creativity.
