      Album Details

Delmé Quartet presents 'Favourite Encores for String Quartet', a captivating collection of chamber music masterpieces. Released on 1 May 1999 by Hyperion, this album is a treasure trove of elegant and refined string quartet pieces, showcasing the ensemble's technical prowess and emotional depth.

With a duration of 1 hour and 13 minutes, 'Favourite Encores for String Quartet' takes you on a journey through a diverse range of compositions, from the serene 'Andante cantabile' from String Quartet in F Major to the lively 'Rondo. Presto' from String Quartet in C Major, Op. 33 No. 3 "The Bird". The Delmé Quartet's impeccable performance brings to life the beauty of Crisantemi, Sally in Our Alley, and Cherry Ripe for String Quartet, H. 119/2, among other gems.

This album seamlessly blends classic string quartet repertoire with lesser-known gems, resulting in a unique and engaging listening experience. The Delmé Quartet's interpretation of String Quartet No. 1 in D Major, Op. 11: II. Andante cantabile, String Quartet in A Minor: II. Scherzo, and Meditation on an Old Czech Hymn "St Wenceslas", Op. 35a, demonstrates their mastery of the genre.

The inclusion of Waltz in A Major, Op. 54 No. 1, and Waltz in D-Flat Minor, Op. 54 No. 4, adds a touch of whimsy and charm, while the String Quintet in C Major, G. 310: IV. Rondeau, showcases the ensemble's ability to craft a sense of joy and abandon. With its blend of chamber music and minimalist elements, 'Favourite Encores for String Quartet' is a must-listen for fans of the Delmé Quartet and string quartet enthusiasts alike.
