      Album Details

Sebastian Fagerlund's "Isola," released in 2011, is a compelling collection of contemporary classical works that showcase the composer's unique voice and innovative approach to orchestration. The album features three distinct pieces: the Clarinet Concerto, Partita, and Isola, each offering a rich tapestry of sound and emotion.

The Clarinet Concerto, with its four movements, is a standout piece that highlights the virtuosity of the soloist, Christoffer Sundqvist, accompanied by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dima Slobodeniouk. The concerto's dynamic range, from the solemn Entrata to the lively Urbana, demonstrates Fagerlund's mastery of form and expression.

Partita, a three-movement work, is a journey through contrasting moods and textures. The opening Cerimonia sets a mysterious tone, while Risonanza builds to a furious climax, and Preghiera offers a moment of intense introspection.

Isola, the final piece, is a two-movement work that feels like a journey to a distant land. The Introduzione sets the stage with its haunting melodies, while Agitato capriccioso brings the album to a thrilling close.

Recorded at the Gothenburg Concert Hall in Sweden, "Isola" is a testament to Fagerlund's compositional skill and the exceptional musicianship of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. With a total duration of just under an hour, this album is a captivating exploration of contemporary classical music that will appeal to both seasoned listeners and newcomers alike.
