      Album Details

Dive into the captivating world of Eugen Suchoň, one of the most significant Slovak composers of the 20th century, with the album "Eugen Suchon: Piano & Violin Works." Released on November 12, 2011, under the Pavlik Records label, this collection showcases a stunning array of compositions that highlight Suchoň's mastery of both piano and violin. The album spans a generous 1 hour and 46 minutes, featuring 23 tracks that range from sonatas and sonatinas to poignant ballads and dynamic toccatas.

The album opens with the Sonata for violin and piano in A-Flat Major, Op. 1, a work that immediately sets the stage for the technical brilliance and emotional depth that characterizes Suchoň's music. The Sonatina for violin and piano, Op. 11, follows, offering a lighter yet equally engaging counterpoint. The Poeme macabre for violin and piano, Op. 17, adds a touch of the macabre, showcasing Suchoň's versatility and range.

The piano works on this album are equally compelling. The Little Suite with Passacaglia, Op. 3, is a multi-movement suite that takes the listener on a journey through a variety of moods and tempos, from the contemplative Prelude to the lively Scherzo and the reflective Reminiscence. The Ballad Suite, Op. 9, is another highlight, featuring four movements that explore a range of emotions, from the energetic Allegro moderato to the melancholic Largo, con malinconia.

The Metamorphoses for piano is a standout piece, with five movements that transform and evolve, each one building on the last to create a cohesive and captivating whole. The album concludes with two solo piano pieces, the Elegy and the Toccata, which serve as a fitting finale to this remarkable collection.

Performed by Ladislav Fanzowitz and Milan Pala, this album is a testament to the enduring power of Suchoň's music. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Eugen Suchon: Piano & Violin Works" is sure to impress and inspire.
