Englund, E.: Symphonies Nos. 3 and 7 - Einar Englund

      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the powerful and evocative world of Einar Englund's symphonies with this captivating album, "Englund, E.: Symphonies Nos. 3 and 7." Einar Englund, a pivotal figure in Finnish symphonic music following Sibelius, brings his unique voice and profound emotional depth to these two remarkable works.

The album opens with Symphony No. 3, "Barbarossa," a four-movement masterpiece that blends dramatic intensity with lyrical beauty. The first movement, "Maestoso - Allegro ritmico," sets the stage with its grand and rhythmic opening, while the second movement, "Scherzo. Molto vivace - Largamente," offers a whirlwind of energy and contrast. The third movement, "Molto adagio," provides a moment of serene reflection, and the final movement, "Allegro con brio - Largamente," concludes the symphony with a triumphant and exhilarating finale.

Following this, Symphony No. 7 unfolds in four movements, each revealing a different facet of Englund's compositional genius. The first movement, "Allegretto," begins with a sense of urgency and forward momentum, while the second movement, "Andante," offers a more introspective and melancholic mood. The third movement, "Moderato e quasi una danza tristezza," introduces a dance-like quality tinged with sadness, and the final movement, "Con moto," brings the symphony to a close with a sense of resolution and vitality.

Recorded by the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Ari Rasilainen, this album captures the full grandeur and nuance of Englund's symphonies. With a total duration of 1 hour and 3 minutes, it's a substantial and rewarding listening experience that showcases the depth and range of Englund's musical vision. Released in 1994 by Ondine, this album is a testament to Englund's enduring legacy as one of Finland's most important symphonists.
