      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Einar Englund's "Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 / Epinikia," a masterful collection of orchestral and concerto works that showcase the composer's unique voice and profound musicality. Released in 2003 under the Ondine label, this album features the stunning performances of pianist Matti Raekallio, the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, and conductor Eri Klas, who bring Englund's compositions to life with remarkable skill and passion.

The album opens with the Piano Concerto No. 1, a three-movement work that blends lyrical melodies, rhythmic vitality, and rich harmonies. The first movement, "Moderato," sets the stage with its contemplative mood, while the second movement, "Larghissimo," unfolds with a sense of grandeur and introspection. The final movement, "Allegro ma non troppo," concludes the concerto with a dynamic and exhilarating finale.

The Piano Concerto No. 2 follows, offering a stark contrast to its predecessor. The first movement, "Preludio. Allegro moderato quasi maestoso," begins with a sense of solemnity and builds to a powerful climax. The second movement, "Aria. Molto adagio e misterioso," is a hauntingly beautiful interlude, while the final movement, "Finale. Allegro assai," brings the concerto to a thrilling and triumphant close.

The album concludes with "Epinikia," a celebratory work that showcases Englund's ability to blend traditional and modern elements in a cohesive and engaging manner. Throughout the album, Englund's compositions are brought to life by the exceptional performances of the artists involved, making this a truly unforgettable listening experience. Whether you're a fan of classical music or simply appreciate the beauty of well-crafted compositions, "Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 / Epinikia" is an album that will captivate and inspire you.
