      Album Details

"Enesco Re-Imagined" is a captivating exploration of classical compositions reimagined through the lens of contemporary jazz, brought to life by the virtuosic Lucian Ban and his collaborator John Hébert. Released in 2010 under the Sunnyside label, this album spans a diverse range of genres, including free jazz and third stream music, offering a unique blend of chamber music and improvisational jazz.

The album features a selection of Enescu's works, including "Aria et Scherzino," "Octet for Strings Opus 7," and "Symphony No 4, Marziale," each reworked to showcase the dynamic interplay between Ban's piano and Hébert's bass. The result is a harmonious fusion of classical elegance and modern jazz innovation, creating a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly new.

With a runtime of 1 hour and 11 minutes, "Enesco Re-Imagined" is a testament to the creative vision of Lucian Ban, who seamlessly bridges the gap between classical and jazz traditions. This album is a must-listen for fans of both genres, offering a rich and immersive musical experience that highlights the timeless beauty of Enescu's compositions while infusing them with the spontaneity and energy of jazz.

      About Lucian Ban

Lucian Ban is a captivating Romanian-American jazz pianist and composer, born in 1969 in the heart of Transylvania. His music is a rich tapestry that weaves together European classical traditions, the vibrant folk melodies of his homeland, and the dynamic spirit of modern post-bop jazz. Based in Brooklyn since 1999, Ban's journey began with studies in composition at the Bucharest Music Academy. He founded the group Jazz Unit in 1995, and his collaborations, notably with violist Mat Maneri, have resulted in innovative works like "Transylvanian Dance," a radical reimagining of George Enescu's "Oedipe" opera. Ban's unique blend of influences creates a sound that is both deeply rooted and refreshingly contemporary, making him a standout figure in the jazz world.
