      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of classical music with this exquisite collection featuring the legendary Sir John Barbirolli. Released on January 8, 2021, under the prestigious Warner Classics label, this album offers a captivating journey through the works of Elgar, Rosse, and Wallace.

The album kicks off with Edward Elgar's masterful "Introduction and Allegro for String Quartet and String Orchestra, Op. 47," a piece that showcases the intricate interplay between the string quartet and the orchestra. The three movements—Introduction, Allegro, and Fugue—are performed with a depth of expression and technical brilliance that only Sir John Barbirolli can deliver.

Following Elgar's work, the album delves into the enchanting compositions of Rosse, inspired by Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice." The five movements, including the evocative "Prelude No. 1," the lyrical "Intermezzo 'Portia'," and the stirring "Doge's March," transport the listener to the vibrant streets of Venice, bringing the play's characters and scenes to life through music.

The album concludes with William Vincent Wallace's "Overture from Maritana," a lively and energetic piece that highlights the orchestra's virtuosity. This overture is a perfect finale to an album that celebrates the timeless beauty of classical music.

With a total duration of 39 minutes, this album is a treasure trove for classical music enthusiasts and newcomers alike. Sir John Barbirolli's conducting is nothing short of extraordinary, making this release a standout in his illustrious career. Whether you're a seasoned classical music fan or looking to expand your musical horizons, this album promises an unforgettable listening experience.
