Elgar & Carter Cello Concertos - Alisa Weilerstein

      Album Details

Alisa Weilerstein, the acclaimed cellist, makes her debut on Decca with a captivating album featuring two monumental cello concertos by Edward Elgar and Elliott Carter. Recorded with the renowned Staatskapelle Berlin under the baton of Daniel Barenboim, this album showcases Weilerstein's extraordinary artistry and technical prowess.

The album opens with Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85, a deeply expressive and introspective work that has become a cornerstone of the cello repertoire. Weilerstein's interpretation is both profound and nuanced, bringing out the rich emotional depth of Elgar's composition. The concerto is presented in its entirety, with four distinct movements that range from the hauntingly beautiful Adagio to the spirited Allegro.

Following the Elgar concerto, the album presents Carter's Cello Concerto, a complex and innovative work that challenges both the performer and the listener. Weilerstein's mastery of Carter's intricate and demanding score is evident in her precise and dynamic playing. The concerto is divided into seven movements, each offering a unique exploration of sound and rhythm.

The album concludes with Kol Nidrei - Adagio For Cello, Opus 47, a poignant and reflective piece that highlights Weilerstein's ability to convey deep emotion through her playing.

Recorded at the Philharmonie Berlin in April 2012, this album captures the exceptional collaboration between Weilerstein, Barenboim, and the Staatskapelle Berlin. The recording quality is superb, allowing listeners to fully appreciate the subtleties and power of the performances.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 2 minutes, this album is a testament to Weilerstein's extraordinary talent and her commitment to exploring and expanding the cello repertoire. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to leave a lasting impression.
