      About István Kertész

István Kertész, the acclaimed Hungarian conductor, left an indelible mark on the world of classical music despite his tragically short career. Born in Budapest in 1929, Kertész began his musical journey as a violin and piano prodigy, later studying composition and violin at the prestigious Liszt Academy. His conducting career took off when he led the academy's student orchestra, showcasing his extraordinary talent from an early age.

Kertész's repertoire spanned opera and orchestral works, with a particular affinity for composers like Bruckner, Schumann, and Brahms. His interpretations were noted for their depth and maturity, earning him international acclaim. He conducted some of the world's most renowned orchestras and opera houses, leaving audiences in awe of his stern yet nuanced approach, as heard in his striking rendition of Mozart's Requiem.

A contemporary of other conducting greats like Bernard Haitink and Lorin Maazel, Kertész's untimely death at the age of 43 cut short what promised to be a legendary career. Yet, his recordings continue to captivate and inspire, a testament to his enduring legacy in the world of classical music.
