      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical music with János Starker's captivating album, "Dvořák: Cello Concerto in B Minor - Fauré: Élégie for Cello and Orchestra." This exquisite collection, released on August 1, 2011, under the Past Classics label, showcases Starker's virtuoso prowess and the Philharmonia Orchestra's impeccable artistry under the direction of Walter Susskind.

The album is a masterful blend of two iconic compositions: Antonín Dvořák's Cello Concerto in B Minor, Op. 104, and Gabriel Fauré's Élégie, Op. 24. Dvořák's concerto, a cornerstone of the cello repertoire, is presented in three movements: the spirited "Allegro," the introspective "Adagio ma non troppo," and the dynamic "Finale." Each movement is a testament to Starker's technical brilliance and emotional depth, as he navigates the concerto's intricate passages with grace and precision.

Complementing Dvořák's concerto is Fauré's Élégie, a poignant piece that highlights Starker's lyrical sensitivity and expressive phrasing. The orchestral arrangement of this work adds a rich, resonant backdrop to Starker's soulful performance.

Recorded in 1956, this album is a historical document of Starker's early career, offering a glimpse into the development of one of the most celebrated cellists of the 20th century. The Münchner Symphoniker's rendition of the same pieces provides a contemporary perspective, allowing listeners to appreciate the enduring appeal of these timeless works.

Whether you're a seasoned classical enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is a must-listen. It's a celebration of the cello's expressive range and a testament to the enduring power of classical music.
