      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical music with János Starker's 1990 masterpiece, a captivating collection of iconic works that showcase the virtuosity of one of the most celebrated cellists of our time. This album brings together three timeless pieces that highlight Starker's unparalleled skill and deep emotional resonance.

The centerpiece of the album is Antonín Dvořák's Cello Concerto in B Minor, Op. 104, a work renowned for its lyrical beauty and technical demands. Starker's rendition is a testament to his mastery of the instrument, delivering a performance that is both powerful and deeply expressive. The concerto's three movements—Allegro, Adagio ma non troppo, and Finale—are rendered with precision and passion, making this a standout interpretation of a beloved classic.

Complementing Dvořák's concerto are two other gems of the cello repertoire: Max Bruch's Kol Nidrei, Op. 47, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33. Bruch's Kol Nidrei, an adagio for cello, is a hauntingly beautiful piece that Starker performs with a sensitivity that brings out its profound depth. Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme, with its playful yet sophisticated melodies, is another highlight, showcasing Starker's technical brilliance and musical insight.

Conducted by Antal Doráti and accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra, this album is a must-listen for any classical music enthusiast. Starker's playing is impeccable, and his interpretations are both faithful to the composers' intentions and infused with his own unique artistry. Whether you're a longtime fan of Starker or new to his work, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience that highlights the enduring power of these timeless compositions.
