      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Jan Ladislav Dussek, a virtuoso Czech pianist and composer who left an indelible mark on the classical music scene during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This album, released on August 9, 2019, under the Tudor label, showcases two of Dussek's most enchanting piano sonatas: No. 26 in A-Flat Major, Op. 70 "Le retour à Paris" and No. 28 in F Minor, Op. 77 "L'invocation."

Dussek's sonatas are a testament to his innovative spirit and technical prowess. The Piano Sonata No. 26, composed during his time in Paris, is a four-movement masterpiece that reflects the composer's deep connection to the city. The sonata begins with an expressive Allegro non troppo, followed by a deeply moving Molto adagio con anima ed espressione. The third movement, a Tempo di minuetto, is a playful Scherzo quasi allegro, leading to a spirited Finale. Allegro con spirito.

The Piano Sonata No. 28, Dussek's final composition, is a profound exploration of the piano's capabilities. The sonata opens with an Allegro moderato ma energico, setting the stage for a Tempo di minuetto con moto. Canone alla seconda, a delicate and intricate canon. The third movement, an Adagio non troppo ma solenne, is a solemn and reflective piece, culminating in a lively Rondo. Allegro moderato.

This album, spanning a total of 50 minutes, offers a glimpse into Dussek's extraordinary career, which took him across Europe from Prague to Paris. It's a collection that highlights his unique style and enduring influence on classical piano music. Whether you're a seasoned classical enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, Dussek's sonatas are sure to captivate and inspire.
