      Album Details

Dive into the rich world of classical music with Chi-chi Nwanoku's captivating album, featuring double bass concertos by Carl Dittersdorf and Johann Baptist Vanhal. Released in October 2000 under the Hyperion label, this album showcases Nwanoku's virtuosity and the exquisite playing of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Paul Goodwin.

The album presents a collection of six movements from three double bass concertos, all composed in D Major. The concertos are split between Dittersdorf and Vanhal, offering a delightful blend of styles and interpretations. The performances are marked by their technical brilliance and expressive depth, making this album a standout in the classical repertoire.

The album kicks off with Dittersdorf's Double Bass Concerto in D Major, featuring three movements that span a range of tempos and moods, from the lively "Allegro moderato" to the serene "Adagio." Following this, the album delves into Dittersdorf's Concerto No. 1 in D Major, with its dynamic "Allegro" and soothing "Adagio." The album concludes with Vanhal's Double Bass Concerto No. 2 in D Major, including an additional "Allegro moderato" arranged by Nwanoku herself, adding a unique touch to the collection.
