Delphinius & Lyra - Raymond MacDonald

      Album Details

"Delphinius & Lyra" is a captivating album by Raymond MacDonald, released in 2007 under the Clean Feed label. This avant-garde jazz album is a collaborative effort with Günter Baby Sommer, recorded live at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow, Scotland. The album's title draws inspiration from the southern hemisphere's zodiac signs, Delphinius (the dolphins) and Lyra (the harp), hinting at the creative and celestial influences that shape its sound.

Spanning eight tracks over nearly an hour, the album is a testament to MacDonald's innovative approach to free jazz. Each piece, from the energetic "GIO and the Dresden Free Team" to the introspective "Parked on the Positive Side of Remembrance," showcases the duo's mastery of improvisation and their ability to push the boundaries of the genre. The album's dynamic range and experimental spirit make it a compelling listen for both jazz enthusiasts and those new to the genre.

"Delphinius & Lyra" is not just a collection of tracks but a journey through the depths of free jazz and avant-garde music. Raymond MacDonald's virtuosic playing and his chemistry with Günter Baby Sommer create a sonic landscape that is as thought-provoking as it is entertaining. This album is a must-experience for anyone interested in the evolution of jazz and the endless possibilities of musical expression.
