      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Frederick Delius with "Delius: The Four Violin Sonatas," a captivating collection of the composer's violin sonatas, released in 1995 under the Conifer Classics label. Spanning a total of 76 minutes, this album is a testament to Delius's unique musical language, which blends ephemeral, elusive, and sensuous qualities, often associated with the Impressionist style.

The album features three complete violin sonatas, showcasing Delius's evolution as a composer. The first sonata, composed between 1905 and 1914, opens with "With easy movement - slow," followed by the lively "With vigour and animation." The second sonata presents a dynamic contrast with "Con moto - lento - molto vivace," while the third sonata unfolds in three movements: "Slow," "Andante Scherzando - Meno Mosso - Tempo Primo," and "Lento - Con Moto - Tranquillo - Tempo Primo."

Delius, an English composer born in Bradford in 1862, created music that transcends borders and genres. His compositions, including the works on this album, reflect his innovative spirit and his ability to evoke a wide range of emotions. "Delius: The Four Violin Sonatas" is not just a collection of sonatas; it's an exploration of Delius's musical journey, offering a glimpse into the mind of a composer who left an indelible mark on the world of classical music.

      About Frederick Delius

Frederick Delius, born into a wealthy mercantile family in Bradford, England, was a composer who defied conventional paths. Rather than following his family's wishes to enter the world of commerce, Delius pursued his passion for music. In 1884, he was sent to Florida to manage an orange plantation, but his heart was not in the business. Instead, he immersed himself in the local music and culture, which significantly influenced his compositions. Returning to Europe in 1886, Delius dedicated himself to his true calling, creating a body of work that reflects his unique experiences and artistic vision.
