      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich, evocative world of Frederick Delius with this captivating collection of concertos. Released on October 25, 2011, by Chandos, this album brings together three of Delius's most significant works for solo string instruments and orchestra, performed by the esteemed BBC Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sir Andrew Davis, with Tasmin Little on violin and Paul Watkins on cello.

The album opens with the Double Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Orchestra in C minor, composed in 1915. This piece showcases Delius's unique ability to blend the expressive qualities of both instruments in a dialogue with the orchestra. The Violin Concerto and Cello Concerto that follow are equally compelling, each offering a distinct exploration of the respective instruments' capabilities.

Delius's music is known for its subtle, atmospheric qualities, and this album is no exception. The performances by Little and Watkins are particularly noteworthy, with their warm, nuanced playing bringing out the best in Delius's intricate compositions. The BBC Symphony Orchestra provides a lush, supportive backdrop, ensuring that each note resonates with clarity and depth.

With a total runtime of 1 hour and 8 minutes, this album offers a substantial journey through Delius's musical landscape. Whether you're a longtime fan of classical music or a newcomer looking to explore the genre, this collection is sure to captivate and inspire. So, sit back, relax, and let the enchanting melodies of Frederick Delius transport you to another time and place.

      About Frederick Delius

Frederick Delius, born into a wealthy mercantile family in Bradford, England, was a composer who defied conventional paths. Rather than following his family's wishes to enter the world of commerce, Delius pursued his passion for music. In 1884, he was sent to Florida to manage an orange plantation, but his heart was not in the business. Instead, he immersed himself in the local music and culture, which significantly influenced his compositions. Returning to Europe in 1886, Delius dedicated himself to his true calling, creating a body of work that reflects his unique experiences and artistic vision.
