      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of classical music with Jun Märkl's 2007 album, a stunning collection of works by Claude Debussy and Toshio Hosokawa. This album, released under the Naxos label, offers a rich and diverse listening experience that spans just over an hour and ten minutes.

Märkl, a renowned conductor known for his dynamic interpretations, leads the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris and the Orchestre National de Lyon through Debussy's iconic "La Mer" and "Nocturnes." These pieces are paragons of impressionist music, characterized by their evocative atmospheres and intricate orchestration. "La Mer," divided into three movements, paints a vivid sonic portrait of the sea, while the "Nocturnes" offer a glimpse into the night, with movements titled "Nuages" (Clouds) and "Fêtes" (Festivals).

The album also features the world premiere recording of Toshio Hosokawa's "Circulating Ocean," a contemporary work that explores the cyclical nature of the ocean. This seven-movement piece, performed by the Orchestre National de Lyon, showcases Märkl's versatility and the orchestra's prowess in contemporary music.

Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a compelling journey through the sounds of the sea and the sky, from the impressionist mastery of Debussy to the contemporary innovations of Hosokawa.
