      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich, resonant world of Franz Danzi's "Bassoon Concertos," a captivating collection of classical masterpieces released in 1999 under the esteemed Naxos label. This album is a testament to Danzi's virtuosity and the timeless appeal of the bassoon, featuring a selection of concertos that showcase the instrument's remarkable range and expressive power.

The album spans a total of 12 tracks, divided among four concertos in G Minor, F Major, C Major, and another in F Major. Each concerto is a journey through the classical repertoire, with movements that range from the lively and energetic to the deeply contemplative. The Polonaises in the G Minor and F Major concertos are particularly noteworthy, offering a taste of the dance-like rhythms and melodies that were popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Performed by the Neubrandenburg Philharmonie under the direction of Nicolás Pasquet, with Albrecht Holder on the bassoon, this recording brings a fresh and dynamic interpretation to Danzi's compositions. The ensemble's precision and passion are evident in every note, making this album a delight for both seasoned classical music enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

With a duration of 1 hour and 13 minutes, "Bassoon Concertos" is a substantial and rewarding listen, offering a deep dive into the world of classical music. Whether you're looking to expand your collection or simply enjoy the beauty of the bassoon, this album is sure to captivate and inspire.

      About Franz Danzi

Franz Ignaz Danzi, born in 1763, was a versatile German musician who excelled as a cellist, composer, and conductor. Hailing from a musical family, Danzi was the son of the renowned cellist Innocenz Danzi and brother to the celebrated singer Franzeska Danzi. His early career saw him playing in the prestigious Palatinate court orchestra at Mannheim, where he honed his skills as a cellist. Danzi's compositional legacy is particularly notable for his nine wind quintets, which showcase his deep understanding of wind instruments and have become staples of classical chamber music. While his works may not reach the heights of Bach or Mozart, they are beloved for their accessibility and charm, making them perfect for relaxed evenings. Danzi's contributions to the classical repertoire ensure his enduring influence in the world of music.
