      Album Details

Richard Danielpour's 2013 album "Danielpour: Darkness in the Ancient Valley, Lacrimae Beati & A Woman's Life" is a compelling exploration of modern classical music, blending rich cultural heritage with contemporary composition. The album features three distinct works, each offering a unique listening experience.

"Darkness in the Ancient Valley" is a five-movement symphony that delves into Danielpour's Persian roots, juxtaposed against the backdrop of recent historical turmoil. This piece is a profound meditation on darkness and light, exploring themes of lamentation, desecration, benediction, profanation, and ultimately, consecration. The symphony's intricate layers and evocative melodies create a powerful narrative that resonates long after the final note fades.

"Lacrimae Beati," a shorter but no less impactful piece, adds a layer of introspection and solemnity to the album. Its title, derived from the Latin phrase "Blessed are they that mourn," sets the tone for a reflective and poignant musical journey.

"A Woman's Life" is a seven-movement work that draws inspiration from the poetry of Maya Angelou. This suite paints a vivid portrait of a woman's life, from the innocence of childhood to the complexities of adulthood. Each movement tells a story, capturing the essence of human experience with sensitivity and depth.

Recorded between 2010 and 2012 and released under the Naxos label, this album showcases Danielpour's mastery of orchestration and his ability to weave together diverse influences into a cohesive and captivating whole. With a duration of just over an hour, it offers a rich and rewarding listening experience that highlights the depth and breadth of Danielpour's musical vision.
