      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Jean-Michel Damase's "Damase: Symphonie, Piano & Flute Concertos," a captivating collection of chamber music that showcases the composer's brilliance and versatility. Released in 2014 under the Dutton Epoch label, this album is a testament to Damase's ability to blend lyrical melodies with intricate orchestral arrangements, creating a rich tapestry of sound that is both engaging and intellectually stimulating.

The album features a diverse range of works, including the Piano Concerto No. 2, the Flute Concerto, and the Concertino for Piano and String Orchestra, all performed with exquisite precision by the BBC Concert Orchestra under the baton of Martin Yates. Soloists Ashley Wass on piano and Anna Noakes on flute bring a sense of warmth and expressiveness to the performances, making each piece feel intimate and personal.

The Symphonie, which opens the album, is a grand and sweeping work that sets the stage for the concertos that follow. The Piano Concerto No. 2 is a tour de force, with its three movements offering a mix of vigor, tenderness, and playful energy. The Flute Concerto, on the other hand, is a delicate and ethereal piece that highlights the flute's ability to soar above the orchestra with grace and elegance. The Concertino for Piano and String Orchestra is a charming and inventive work that showcases Damase's ability to write for smaller ensembles with the same level of sophistication and depth as his larger-scale compositions.

With a total runtime of just under 79 minutes, this album is a substantial and rewarding listening experience that will appeal to fans of classical music and chamber music in particular. Whether you're a seasoned concert-goer or a casual listener, "Damase: Symphonie, Piano & Flute Concertos" is sure to leave a lasting impression and inspire a deeper appreciation for the art of composition.
