      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical chamber music with Alfred Cortot, Jacques Thibaud, and Pablo Casals in their exquisite collaboration, "Cortot, Thibaud & Casals: The Trio." Released on May 2, 2012, this album is a masterful showcase of two iconic piano trios: Beethoven's Trio for Violin, Cello, and Piano No. 1 in D Major, Op. 63, and Schubert's Trio for Violin, Cello, and Piano No. 1 in B-flat Major, D 898. The album spans a total of 61 minutes, offering a rich and immersive listening experience.

Alfred Cortot, the renowned French pianist, brings his unparalleled sensitivity and technical brilliance to the piano parts, while Jacques Thibaud, a celebrated French violinist, and Pablo Casals, the legendary Spanish cellist, deliver performances of profound depth and expressiveness. Together, they create a harmonious blend of sound that captures the essence of these classical masterpieces.

The album begins with Beethoven's Trio in D Major, Op. 63, a work that exudes energy, passion, and lyrical beauty. The first movement, "Mit Energie und Leidenschaft," sets the tone with its dynamic and spirited performance, followed by the lively "Lebhaft, doch nic zu rasch" and the deeply moving "Langsam, mit inniger empfindung." The trio concludes with the fiery "Mit feuer," showcasing the artists' virtuosity and musical synergy.

The second half of the album features Schubert's Trio in B-flat Major, D 898, a work that combines elegance, warmth, and sophistication. The "Allegro moderato" opens with a sense of grace and poise, leading into the introspective "Andante un poco mosso." The "Scherzo - Allegro et Trio" adds a playful and energetic contrast, culminating in the vibrant "Rondo - Allegro vivace: Presto."

This album is a testament to the enduring appeal of classical music and the extraordinary talents of Alfred Cortot, Jacques Thibaud, and Pablo Casals. Their performances are marked by a deep understanding of the compositions and a shared commitment to musical excellence. Whether you're a seasoned classical enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a captivating journey through some of the most beloved works in the chamber music repertoire.

      About Alfred Cortot

Alfred Cortot, born in Switzerland to French and Swiss parents, was a titan of the classical music world in the 20th century, renowned for his prowess as a pianist, conductor, and teacher. With a massive repertoire, Cortot was particularly celebrated for his poetic interpretations of Romantic piano works, with a special affinity for the compositions of Chopin, Franck, Saint-Saëns, and Schumann. His edits of piano music by Chopin, Liszt, and Schumann for Éditions Durand remain influential to this day. Cortot's career spanned decades, primarily based in Paris, and he was one of the most prolifically-recorded pianists of his time, often re-recording major works multiple times. His legacy as a teacher was equally significant, with students who came to him already technically proficient, seeking his unique insights and artistic guidance. Despite his controversial role in France's Nazi-sanctioned occupation government during World War II, Cortot's musical contributions continue to inspire and captivate classical music enthusiasts worldwide.
