      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of classical music with Barbara Hendricks' captivating album, featuring a blend of operatic and orchestral masterpieces. Released in 1995 under Warner Classics, this album showcases Hendricks' extraordinary vocal range and artistry, accompanied by the renowned London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas.

The album opens with Aaron Copland's evocative "Quiet City," a hauntingly beautiful piece that sets the tone for the rest of the collection. Hendricks then delves into Copland's "Eight Poems of Emily Dickinson," a series of songs that bring the poet's words to life with delicate precision and depth. Each poem is a miniature drama, expertly navigated by Hendricks' expressive voice.

The album also features works by Samuel Barber, including the iconic "Adagio for Strings" and selections from his "4 Songs, Op. 13." Barber's compositions are known for their lyrical beauty and dramatic intensity, qualities that Hendricks captures flawlessly. Her rendition of "Knoxville: Summer of 1915, Op. 24" is particularly noteworthy, offering a poignant and evocative performance that highlights her ability to convey both vulnerability and strength.

With a duration of just over an hour, this album is a rich and rewarding listening experience. Whether you're a longtime fan of classical music or a newcomer to the genre, Barbara Hendricks' powerful and nuanced performances are sure to captivate and inspire. The album's thoughtful selection of pieces and Hendricks' masterful interpretations make it a standout addition to any music collection.
