      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Claude Debussy's masterpiece, "Pelléas et Mélisande," as interpreted by the esteemed conductor Roger Desormière. This two-volume collection, released by Classical Moments in 2013, offers a comprehensive journey through Debussy's only completed opera, a seminal work of the 20th century that has inspired generations of composers.

Volume 1, spanning a captivating 2 hours and 7 minutes, presents a meticulously crafted selection of scenes and arias from the opera. Desormière's nuanced direction brings out the subtle complexities and ethereal beauty of Debussy's score, accompanied by the exquisite performances of Irène Joachim, Henri Etcheverry, and Germaine Cernay. The album captures the essence of this tragic love story, from the haunting melodies of "Je Ne Pourai Plus Sortir de Cette Forêt" to the dramatic intensity of "On Dirait que Ta Voix A Passé Sur la Mer au Printemps!"

Debussy's unique musical approach, characterized by its impressionistic style and innovative use of silence, is beautifully showcased in this recording. The opera's influence on modern music is evident in every note, making this album a vital addition to any classical music enthusiast's collection. Whether you're a seasoned opera aficionado or a newcomer to the genre, Desormière's interpretation of "Pelléas et Mélisande" promises a deeply engaging and rewarding listening experience.
