      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of classical piano with György Cziffra's latest album, released on March 18, 2022, under Warner Classics. This remarkable collection features a blend of timeless compositions by Chopin, Mendelssohn, and Weber, showcasing Cziffra's unparalleled mastery of the piano.

The album opens with Chopin's vibrant "Rondo à la Krakowiak" and his Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor, Op. 11, each piece a testament to Cziffra's technical brilliance and emotional depth. The first movement, "Allegro maestoso," sets the stage with its grand and majestic themes, while the second movement, "Romance. Larghetto," offers a tender and introspective contrast. The third movement, "Rondo. Vivace," concludes the concerto with a lively and spirited finale.

Next, the album transitions to Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 25, MWV O7. Cziffra's interpretation of the first movement, "Molto allegro con fuoco," is a fiery and dynamic display of virtuosity. The second movement, "Andante," provides a moment of serene reflection, while the third movement, "Presto - Molto allegro e vivace," brings the concerto to a thrilling close.

The album concludes with Weber's "Konzertstück for Piano and Orchestra in F Minor, Op. 79, J. 282," a piece that showcases Cziffra's ability to blend technical precision with expressive nuance. Throughout the album, Cziffra is accompanied by the Orchestre National de l'Opéra de Monte-Carlo, adding depth and richness to each performance.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes, this album is a comprehensive exploration of some of the most beloved works in the classical piano repertoire. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, György Cziffra's latest release is sure to captivate and inspire.

      About György Cziffra

György Cziffra, born in Budapest in 1921, was a Hungarian-French pianist renowned for his extraordinary virtuosity and unique interpretations. A protégé of Ernő Dohnányi, who studied under Liszt's favourite pupil, Cziffra's career spanned the postwar decades, leaving an indelible mark on the European classical music scene. His performances were nothing short of electrifying, often leaving critics awestruck and bewildered by his rapacious technique and profound musicality. Cziffra's repertoire was vast, but he was particularly celebrated for his renditions of Liszt and Chopin. His recordings, such as the complete works of Liszt on EMI France, offer a testament to his artistry and remain essential listening for classical piano enthusiasts. Cziffra passed away in 1994, but his legacy as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century endures.
