      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical music with Ferdinando Carulli's "Guitar and Piano Music, Vol. 1." This captivating album, released on March 31, 2009, under the Naxos label, showcases the brilliance of Ferdinando Carulli, a prolific composer born in Naples who penned the first complete classical guitar method still in use today. With a runtime of 1 hour and 13 minutes, this collection features 13 enchanting tracks, including Carulli's own compositions and his masterful transcriptions of works by Beethoven and Rossini.

The album opens with Beethoven's Variations in F Major on a theme from Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte," followed by a duo in A Major on themes of Rossini. The heart of the album is Carulli's Gran Duo Concertante in A Major, a three-movement piece that unfolds with grace and sophistication. The Nocturne in G Major, another three-movement work, adds a touch of serenity to the collection. The album concludes with Carulli's Duo in D Major, featuring a lively Rondo.

Carulli's transcriptions of Rossini's overtures, including those from "La gazza Ladra," "Armida," and "Il Barbiere di Siviglia," bring a dramatic flair to the album. Performed by Franz Halász on guitar and Débora Halász on piano, this album is a testament to the enduring appeal of classical music. Whether you're a seasoned enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.
