      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich history and captivating melodies of Carl Heinrich Graun's "Adriano in Siria," a world premiere recording set to release on June 13, 2025, under the esteemed Deutsche Harmonia Mundi label. This choral masterpiece, spanning over two hours, is a testament to Graun's prowess as a German composer and tenor, who, alongside Johann Adolph Hasse, stands as a titan in the realm of Italian operas composed for German courts.

"Adriano in Siria" is based on the libretto by Italian poet Metastasio, originally performed with music by Antonio Caldara in Vienna in 1732. This recording, featuring the talented Ensemble 1700 and Dorothee Oberlinger, offers a unique opportunity to experience Graun's interpretation of this timeless story. The opera's intricate recitatives and arias, such as "Sprezza il furor del vento" and "Partirò, bella tiranna," showcase Graun's ability to blend dramatic narrative with musical elegance.

From the stirring overture to the poignant duets and arias, this album is a journey through the complexities of love, power, and betrayal. Graun's compositions, characterized by their gentle tenor lines and rich choral harmonies, bring to life the dramatic tensions and emotional depths of the story. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Adriano in Siria" promises a captivating exploration of one of the most significant works by Carl Heinrich Graun.
