      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich Baroque soundscape of Antonio Caldara's "Caldara: Missa Dolorosa / Stabat Mater / Sinfonias in G and E Minor," a captivating collection of sacred works that showcase the composer's mastery and the depth of his spiritual expression. Released in 2000 under the Naxos label, this album spans a comprehensive 1 hour and 3 minutes, offering a profound journey through Caldara's religious compositions.

The album opens with the dramatic Sinfonia No. 6 in G minor, an arrangement from the oratorio "Sant'Elena al Calvario," setting the stage for the poignant "Stabat Mater" sequence. This series of twelve movements, each a testament to Caldara's ability to convey deep emotion and reverence, is followed by the Sinfonia No. 10 in E Minor, derived from the oratorio "Gioseffo, che interpreta i sogni." The album concludes with the "Missa Dolorosa," a six-movement mass that encapsulates the sorrow and solemnity of the Lenten season.

Performed by the Swiss Radio Choir and the Aura Musicale Ensemble under the direction of Rene Clemencic, this recording brings to life the intricate polyphony and harmonic richness of Caldara's music. The collaboration between these talented musicians and the insightful direction of Diego Fasolis ensures a performance that is both authentic and deeply moving.

Antonio Caldara, an Italian composer of the Baroque era, was known for his prolific output and his ability to blend the styles of the Venetian and Neapolitan schools. His works, such as those featured on this album, continue to be celebrated for their beauty, complexity, and emotional resonance. "Caldara: Missa Dolorosa / Stabat Mater / Sinfonias in G and E Minor" is a testament to his enduring legacy and a must-listen for anyone interested in the sacred music of the Baroque period.
