      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach with his captivating album "C.P.E. Bach: 3 Flute Concertos." Released in 2001 under the Hyperion label, this classical masterpiece spans a total of 1 hour and 9 minutes, offering a rich tapestry of musical brilliance. The album features three exquisite flute concertos, each a testament to Bach's unique style that bridges the Baroque and Classical eras.

The first concerto, in A Major (H. 438), begins with a lively Allegro, followed by a serene Largo con sordini, mesto, and concludes with a spirited Allegro assai. The second concerto, in D Minor (H. 484.1), opens with an energetic Allegro, transitions into a reflective Un poco andante, and culminates in a vibrant Allegro di molto. The final concerto, in G Major (H. 445), starts with a dynamic Allegro di molto, moves into a graceful Largo, and ends with a lively Presto.

Performed by the talented Rachel Brown on flute, accompanied by The Brandenburg Consort under the direction of Roy Goodman, this album showcases the emotional depth and technical prowess of C.P.E. Bach's compositions. Each piece is a journey through the composer's innovative use of harmony, rhythm, and expression, making this album a treasure trove for both classical enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

      About Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, born in 1714, was a pioneering composer who seamlessly bridged the Baroque and Classical periods, carving out his own distinctive musical identity beyond the shadow of his renowned father, Johann Sebastian Bach. As the second surviving son, Carl Philipp Emanuel's compositions are celebrated for their approachable yet innovative nature, characterised by unexpected, angular melodies and a dynamic, energetic spirit. His works, including his influential sonatas for keyboard and violin, have left a lasting impact on the classical music landscape.

Beyond his compositions, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was also a notable performer and music publisher. His Essay on the True Art of Playing Keyboard Instruments, published in 1753, remains a significant contribution to musical pedagogy. Throughout his career, he was both revered and criticised for his bold musical departures, solidifying his status as a transitional figure in music history. Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach passed away in 1788, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that continues to inspire and captivate audiences today.
