      About Jorge Bolet

      Jorge Bolet, the Cuban-born American pianist, conductor, and teacher, was celebrated for his authoritative mastery, tonal richness, and refined lyricism, securing his place among the finest pianists of the 20th century. Bolet's journey began with early lessons from his sister, followed by advanced studies at the prestigious Curtis Institute in Philadelphia under the tutelage of renowned pianists Leopold Godowsky and Moriz Rosenthal, a pupil of Franz Liszt. His career took off in 1952 with his debut commercial LP recording, 'Airs of Spain,' produced by Boston Records, showcasing his deep connection to Spanish music.

      Bolet's playing was renowned for its beauty and richness across all dynamic levels, characterised by a glorious singing tone and aristocratic mastery. His performances, such as Brahms's Second Piano Concerto with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, highlighted his spiritual depth and luxuriant tonal palette. From the mid-1970s until his passing in October 1990, Bolet emerged as one of the world's truly great pianists, often hailed as one of the last great Romantics. His legacy includes a comprehensive collection of recordings, including his complete Decca recordings, which offer a testament to his enduring artistry and influence in the world of classical piano.
