      Rutland Boughton, born in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, in 1878, was a pioneering English composer whose name is synonymous with the golden age of British opera and choral music in the early 20th century. Known for his operatic works and Arthurian music dramas, Boughton was deeply influenced by the theories of Richard Wagner and became a principal advocate for music drama in England.
