      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich, romantic sounds of Alexander Borodin with this captivating album, "Borodin: Symphonies Nos. 1 and 3 / Overture To Prince Igor." Released in 2000 under the CBC label, this classical masterpiece spans a concise yet impactful 1 hour and 9 minutes, featuring eight tracks that showcase Borodin's distinctive compositional style.

The album opens with the dramatic "Prince Igor: Overture," a powerful introduction to Borodin's operatic work. It then delves into his symphonic repertoire with the "Symphony No. 3 in A Minor (Unfinished)," orchestrated by A.K. Glazunov, offering a glimpse into Borodin's unfinished yet profound musical ideas. The "Symphony No. 1 in E-Flat Major" is presented in its entirety, showcasing the composer's early symphonic prowess with its lively scherzo, serene andante, and exhilarating finale. The album also includes a beautifully arranged nocturne from Borodin's "String Quartet No. 2 in D Major."

Performed by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Bramwell Tovey, this recording brings Borodin's works to life with vivid clarity and expressive depth. Whether you're a longtime admirer of classical music or a newcomer to Borodin's compositions, this album offers a compelling exploration of the Russian composer's symphonic and operatic genius.
