      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Alexander Borodin's symphonies with this captivating album, "Borodin: Symphonies Nos. 1, 3 & Songs." Recorded by the renowned Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Gennady Rozhdestvensky, this collection offers a profound exploration of Borodin's musical genius.

The album features two of Borodin's most celebrated symphonies: the complete Symphony No. 1 in E-Flat Major and the unfinished Symphony No. 3 in A Minor, which was completed and orchestrated by Glazunov. The symphonies are complemented by two beautiful songs, "Romance" and "At the Homes of Other Folk," performed by vocalists Larissa Dyadkova and others.

Each track is a masterclass in orchestration and composition, showcasing Borodin's unique ability to blend Russian folk influences with classical forms. The Symphony No. 1, with its grand and sweeping movements, is a testament to Borodin's early mastery, while the Symphony No. 3, though unfinished, reveals his evolving style and innovative spirit.

Recorded over several sessions between 1992 and 1993 in the acoustically superb Stockholm Concert Hall, this album captures the full richness and depth of Borodin's scores. The performances are vivid and dynamic, bringing to life the intricate details and emotional resonance of each piece.

Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to Borodin's work, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience. It's a chance to delve into the heart of Russian classical music and discover the timeless beauty of Alexander Borodin's compositions.

      About Alexander Borodin

Alexander Borodin, born in St Petersburg in 1833, was a remarkable figure in the world of classical music, renowned not only for his compositions but also for his significant contributions to chemistry. As a member of the influential group known as 'The Five', Borodin dedicated himself to creating a uniquely Russian musical identity. His most celebrated works include the opera 'Prince Igor', the symphonic poem 'In the Steppes of Central Asia', and his two string quartets. Despite his demanding career in science, Borodin's musical output is marked by its originality and beauty, reflecting his deep passion for both art and science. His life was tragically cut short when he collapsed and died on the dance floor at a ball in 1887, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire. Borodin's ability to balance his dual careers as a scientist and composer is a testament to his extraordinary talent and dedication.
