      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the rich, melodic world of Alexander Borodin with his complete symphonies, masterfully presented in this 2011 release from Naxos. Spanning a total of 1 hour and 18 minutes, this collection features three of Borodin's most celebrated works: his Symphonies No. 1 in E-Flat Major, No. 2 in B Minor, and the unfinished Symphony No. 3 in A Minor, orchestrated by A.K. Glazunov.

Borodin's symphonies are renowned for their lyrical beauty and vibrant energy. The First Symphony, completed over a span of five years, showcases Borodin's seamless melodic invention and has been praised for its inventive and engaging composition. The Second Symphony continues to captivate with its dynamic shifts and rich harmonies, while the unfinished Third Symphony offers a tantalizing glimpse into what could have been.

This recording, performed by the Seattle Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Gerard Schwarz, was captured live at the acclaimed Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Washington. The clarity and precision of the performance, combined with the excellent sound quality, make this release a standout in the classical music catalog. Whether you're a longtime fan of Borodin's work or a newcomer to his compositions, this album offers a compelling introduction to the symphonic genius of one of Russia's most beloved composers.

      About Alexander Borodin

Alexander Borodin, born in St Petersburg in 1833, was a remarkable figure in the world of classical music, renowned not only for his compositions but also for his significant contributions to chemistry. As a member of the influential group known as 'The Five', Borodin dedicated himself to creating a uniquely Russian musical identity. His most celebrated works include the opera 'Prince Igor', the symphonic poem 'In the Steppes of Central Asia', and his two string quartets. Despite his demanding career in science, Borodin's musical output is marked by its originality and beauty, reflecting his deep passion for both art and science. His life was tragically cut short when he collapsed and died on the dance floor at a ball in 1887, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire. Borodin's ability to balance his dual careers as a scientist and composer is a testament to his extraordinary talent and dedication.
