      Frank Wess, born in Kansas City, Missouri, was a titan of jazz, renowned for his virtuosity on both saxophone and flute. His career spanned an impressive seven decades, with a significant portion dedicated to his role as a key member of the Count Basie Orchestra. Wess was one of the first major jazz flutists, bringing a unique and melodic voice to the instrument.
