      Album Details

"Birtwistle, Maxwell Davies & Watkins: Trumpet Concertos" is a captivating classical album released in 1991, showcasing the extraordinary talent of Swedish trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger. This album is a collection of three stunning trumpet concertos composed by Harrison Birtwistle, Peter Maxwell Davies, and Michael Blake Watkins. Recorded in January 1990, the album features the BBC Philharmonic, conducted by Elgar Howarth, providing a rich and dynamic backdrop to Hardenberger's virtuosic performances.

The album opens with "Endless Parade," a composition by Harrison Birtwistle that challenges and delights with its intricate rhythms and harmonies. Following this is the "Trumpet Concerto" by Peter Maxwell Davies, a piece that showcases the full range of the trumpet's expressive capabilities. The album concludes with another "Trumpet Concerto" by Michael Blake Watkins, offering a contrasting yet equally compelling exploration of the instrument.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 18 minutes, this album is a testament to Hardenberger's mastery of the trumpet and his ability to bring out the unique character of each composition. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience. The collaboration between Hardenberger, the BBC Philharmonic, and conductor Elgar Howarth results in a recording that is both technically impressive and deeply engaging.
