      About Michael Sanderling

      Michael Sanderling is a renowned German cellist and conductor, born on February 21, 1967, in Berlin. Hailing from a distinguished musical family, he is the son of the late conductor Kurt Sanderling and brother to conductors Stefan and Thomas Sanderling. Sanderling began his career as a virtuoso cellist, eventually becoming the principal cellist of the Gewandhausorchester. His transition to conducting has been remarkably successful, leading him to his current position as the Chief Conductor of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra since the 2021/2022 season. With a diverse discography spanning works by Mozart, Schubert, Chopin, and Brahms, among others, Sanderling's performances are a testament to his profound musicality and versatility. His work transcends borders, with active engagements in the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Germany, making him a celebrated figure in the classical music world.
