      About Philippe Hirshhorn

      Philippe Hirschhorn, a celebrated Latvian violinist born on 11 June 1946 in Riga, left an indelible mark on the classical music world. A prodigious talent, he won the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in 1967, showcasing his extraordinary skill and artistry. Known for his stellar performances, Hirschhorn was one of the finest graduates of the Soviet School of violin playing. His repertoire included masterpieces like the Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major, Op. 6, and Sonata No. 3 in D Minor, Op. 108, which continue to captivate audiences. Beyond his solo career, Hirschhorn was a dedicated teacher, nurturing the talents of renowned violinists such as Philippe Graffin and Janine Jansen. Tragically, his life was cut short by a brain tumor on 26 November 1996 in Brussels, at the age of 50. His legacy endures through his recordings and the students he inspired, ensuring his influence resonates through generations of musicians.
