      About Ivan Moravec

      Ivan Moravec, born in Prague in 1930, was a distinguished Czech pianist renowned for his profound interpretations of classical masterpieces. His musical journey began at the age of seven under the tutelage of Erna Grünfeld, and by fifteen, he was enrolled at the Prague Conservatoire. Moravec's repertoire spanned approximately 24 hours of recorded music, with a particular affinity for the works of Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Debussy, whom he championed throughout his career. After completing his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Moravec moved to New York in 1962, where he continued to captivate audiences with his technical brilliance and expressive phrasing. His legacy endures through his extensive discography, which includes a celebrated 11-CD set showcasing his virtuosity with the composers he held dear. Moravec passed away in Prague in 2015, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire classical piano enthusiasts worldwide.
