      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Béla Bartók's "Violin Concerto No. 2 in B Minor, Sz.112," a masterful piece of classical music that has been remastered to bring out the rich nuances of this iconic work. Released on Sony Classical in 2018, this album is a testament to Bartók's genius, showcasing his unique ability to blend neoclassical and classical piano elements into a harmonious whole.

The concerto is divided into three distinct movements, each offering a unique journey through Bartók's intricate compositions. The first movement, "Allegro non troppo," sets the stage with a slow, deliberate pace that gradually builds in intensity. The second movement, "Andante tranquillo - Allegro scherzando - Tempo I," provides a stark contrast with its tranquil beginning that suddenly erupts into a playful, energetic dance. The final movement, "Allegro molto," brings the concerto to a thrilling conclusion with its rapid tempo and complex rhythms.

Performances by renowned violinists such as Christian Tetzlaff, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, and Isaac Stern, accompanied by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra under the direction of Hannu Lintu and Libor Pešek, bring Bartók's vision to life with breathtaking precision and passion. The 2017 remastering process ensures that every note is crystal clear, allowing you to fully appreciate the depth and complexity of Bartók's music.

Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is a must-listen. It offers a profound exploration of Bartók's musical genius and a chance to experience one of the most influential works in the classical repertoire.

      About Béla Bartók

Béla Bartók, born in 1881 in Nagyszentmiklós, Hungary, was a towering figure in 20th-century music, renowned as a composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist. His deep connection to Hungarian and Central European folk music infused his compositions with a unique and captivating flavor, making him one of Hungary's greatest composers alongside Franz Liszt. Bartók's prodigious talent was evident from a young age; by four, he could play forty tunes on the piano, and by five, he began formal piano lessons with his mother. His musical journey took him from his early studies in Pozsony to becoming a distinguished teacher at the Zeneakadémia. Bartók's extensive work in collecting and studying folk music from across Central Europe enriched his compositions, which span orchestral works, string quartets, piano solos, and vocal settings of folk songs. His legacy endures as one of the most significant contributors to classical and neoclassical music, celebrated for his innovative approach and deep cultural roots. Bartók passed away in New York in 1945, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire and enchant audiences worldwide.
