      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of classical piano with Béla Bartók's "Bartok: Piano Concerto No. 3 - Ravel: Piano Concerto in G Major." Released in 2009 under the Brilliant Classics label, this album is a stunning showcase of Bartók's and Ravel's masterful compositions, performed with exquisite skill and passion.

The album features two iconic piano concertos: Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 3, Sz. 119, and Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major. Bartók's concerto, composed in 1945, is a tour de force of technical brilliance and emotional depth, with three distinct movements that range from the playful "Allegretto" to the intense "Allegro vivace." Ravel's concerto, written in 1929-1931, is a jewel of neoclassical music, characterized by its elegant melodies and intricate rhythms.

Performing these works is the talented Klára Würtz, accompanied by the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Theodore Kuchar. Würtz's virtuosic playing brings out the full range of emotions in these concertos, from the tender "Adagio religioso" of Bartók's concerto to the lively "Allegramente" of Ravel's. The Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra provides a rich and nuanced backdrop, with Kuchar's conducting bringing out the best in both the soloist and the ensemble.

With a total runtime of 45 minutes, this album is a compact yet powerful exploration of two of the most important piano concertos of the 20th century. Whether you're a seasoned classical music fan or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to captivate and inspire you. Don't miss out on this opportunity to experience the genius of Bartók and Ravel, brought to life by some of the finest musicians in the world.

      About Béla Bartók

Béla Bartók, born in 1881 in Nagyszentmiklós, Hungary, was a towering figure in 20th-century music, renowned as a composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist. His deep connection to Hungarian and Central European folk music infused his compositions with a unique and captivating flavor, making him one of Hungary's greatest composers alongside Franz Liszt. Bartók's prodigious talent was evident from a young age; by four, he could play forty tunes on the piano, and by five, he began formal piano lessons with his mother. His musical journey took him from his early studies in Pozsony to becoming a distinguished teacher at the Zeneakadémia. Bartók's extensive work in collecting and studying folk music from across Central Europe enriched his compositions, which span orchestral works, string quartets, piano solos, and vocal settings of folk songs. His legacy endures as one of the most significant contributors to classical and neoclassical music, celebrated for his innovative approach and deep cultural roots. Bartók passed away in New York in 1945, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire and enchant audiences worldwide.
