      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of classical music with Ernest Ansermet's remarkable album, featuring two iconic piano concertos. Released on October 10, 2014, under the Radio Tower Records label, this collection showcases the timeless compositions of Béla Bartók and Sergei Prokofiev, performed with exquisite skill by Ernest Ansermet and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, with Julius Katchen on piano.

The album opens with Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 3 in E Major, Sz. 119, a piece that beautifully blends modernist sensibilities with a deeply romantic spirit. The three movements, "Allegretto," "Adagio religioso," and "Allegro vivace," each offer a unique emotional landscape, from the contemplative and serene to the lively and energetic. Bartók's innovative use of folk melodies and complex rhythms makes this concerto a standout in the classical repertoire.

Following this is Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Major, Op. 26, a work that is both technically demanding and deeply expressive. The concerto's three movements, "Andante - Allegro," "Theme and Variations," and "Allegro ma non troppo," showcase Prokofiev's distinctive style, characterized by its bold harmonies, rhythmic vitality, and lyrical beauty. This concerto is a testament to Prokofiev's genius and remains one of his most beloved works.

With a total runtime of 48 minutes, this album is a perfect blend of orchestral and piano virtuosity, offering a rich and rewarding listening experience. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, Ernest Ansermet's interpretation of these masterpieces is sure to leave a lasting impression.
