      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Béla Bartók with "Bartók Recordings From Private Collections, Vol. 1-2," a remarkable compilation that spans a staggering 4 hours and 4 minutes of music. This extensive collection, released on July 15, 2014, under the Hungaroton label, is a treasure trove for classical enthusiasts, offering a blend of Bartók's own compositions and his interpretations of works by other masters like Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The album is a testament to Bartók's genius as both a composer and a pianist. It features a diverse range of pieces, from his iconic "For Children" and "Romanian Folk Dances" to his virtuosic "Piano Concerto No. 2" and "Allegro barbaro." The collection also includes excerpts from his collaborations with other artists, such as the Sonata for 2 Pianos in D Major with Ditta Bartók-Pásztory and the Sonata for 2 Pianos in F Minor with Ernő Dohnányi.

Beyond Bartók's own works, the album showcases his deep appreciation for other musical traditions. It includes his improvisations on Hungarian peasant songs and his interpretations of classical pieces by Bach and Mozart. The inclusion of these works provides a fascinating glimpse into Bartók's musical influences and his role as a bridge between different musical worlds.

The album is not just a collection of recordings; it's a historical document that captures Bartók's performances in their original context. The recordings, sourced from private collections, offer a unique opportunity to hear Bartók's music as it was intended, providing an intimate and authentic listening experience.

Whether you're a long-time fan of Bartók's music or a newcomer looking to explore his work, this album is a must-listen. It's a chance to experience the full range of Bartók's musical genius, from his early compositions to his later works, and to appreciate his enduring influence on the world of classical music. So, sit back, press play, and let the enchanting melodies and rhythms of Béla Bartók transport you to a world of musical brilliance.

      About Béla Bartók

Béla Bartók, born in 1881 in Nagyszentmiklós, Hungary, was a towering figure in 20th-century music, renowned as a composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist. His deep connection to Hungarian and Central European folk music infused his compositions with a unique and captivating flavor, making him one of Hungary's greatest composers alongside Franz Liszt. Bartók's prodigious talent was evident from a young age; by four, he could play forty tunes on the piano, and by five, he began formal piano lessons with his mother. His musical journey took him from his early studies in Pozsony to becoming a distinguished teacher at the Zeneakadémia. Bartók's extensive work in collecting and studying folk music from across Central Europe enriched his compositions, which span orchestral works, string quartets, piano solos, and vocal settings of folk songs. His legacy endures as one of the most significant contributors to classical and neoclassical music, celebrated for his innovative approach and deep cultural roots. Bartók passed away in New York in 1945, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire and enchant audiences worldwide.
