      Baroque Harp - Naoko Yoshino
      Baroque Harp - Naoko Yoshino

      Album Details

Naoko Yoshino's "Baroque Harp" is a captivating journey through the world of classical and Japanese classical music, showcasing the exquisite talent of the renowned harpist. Released in 1998 under Decca Music Group Ltd., this album is a testament to Yoshino's mastery of the harp, featuring a collection of 14 meticulously arranged pieces that span a total of 53 minutes.

The album opens with a vibrant arrangement of Handel's Harpsichord Sonata in A Major, followed by a serene Sarabande and a dynamic Ground, both arranged by Watkins for the harp. Yoshino's interpretations of these classical pieces are both faithful to the original compositions and innovative in their approach, highlighting the versatility of the harp.

One of the standout tracks on the album is the Prelude from Bach's Violin Partita No. 3, BWV 1006, which is part of Yoshino's 12 Etudes for Harp, Op. 45. This piece, along with the Fugue from Bach's Violin Sonata No. 1, BWV 1001, showcases Yoshino's technical prowess and her ability to bring out the emotional depth of each composition.

The album also features several transcriptions for the harp, including pieces by Grandjany, Salzedo, and McDonald & Wood. These arrangements demonstrate the harp's ability to adapt to a wide range of musical styles and genres, from the delicate Pavane et Branles to the powerful Sonata in C Minor.

In addition to her interpretations of classical pieces, Yoshino also includes a selection of Japanese classical music on the album. These tracks offer a unique perspective on the harp's role in traditional Japanese music and provide a refreshing contrast to the Western classical pieces.

Recorded in the acoustic splendor of the Maria Minor Kerk in Utrecht, The Netherlands, in April 1998, "Baroque Harp" benefits from the exceptional sound quality and attention to detail that Yoshino and producer Wilhelm Hellweg brought to the project. The result is an album that is both a pleasure to listen to and a testament to the enduring appeal of classical music.

Whether you are a longtime fan of Naoko Yoshino or a newcomer to the world of classical harp music, "Baroque Harp" is an album that is sure to impress and inspire. With its diverse selection of pieces and Yoshino's exceptional playing, this album is a must-listen for anyone who appreciates the beauty and versatility of the harp.
