      Album Details

Leonardo Balada's "Maria Sabina / Dionisio - In Memoriam" is a captivating exploration of chamber music that seamlessly blends ethnic influences with avant-garde techniques. Released on March 25, 2008, under the Naxos label, this album spans a duration of 1 hour and 8 minutes, featuring five tracks that delve into the rich cultural and historical tapestry of Spain.

The album is divided into two main works: "Maria Sabina," a symphonic tragedy that draws from the folklore and mysticism of Oaxaca, Mexico, and "Dionisio - In Memoriam," a cantata honoring Dionisio Ridruejo, a prominent Spanish poet and politician. The former is a dramatic narrative involving the legendary healer Maria Sabina, while the latter pays tribute to Ridruejo's philosophical and ideological legacy.

Performed by the Madrid Community Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of José Ramón Encinar, the album showcases Balada's unique ability to merge traditional and contemporary musical elements. The result is a compelling and thought-provoking listening experience that highlights the depth and versatility of Balada's compositional style. Whether you're a fan of classical music or simply curious about the fusion of different musical traditions, this album offers a rich and rewarding journey into the world of Leonardo Balada.
