      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of classical music with "Bach / Handel: Harp Concertos" by the legendary harpist Nicanor Zabaleta. Released in 2000 under the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label, this album is a testament to Zabaleta's virtuosity and his deep connection with the harp. Spanning a duration of 1 hour and 5 minutes, the album features 20 tracks that beautifully showcase the intricate arrangements of concertos originally composed for other instruments, masterfully adapted for the harp by Zabaleta himself.

The album opens with a series of concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach, including the Concerto in F major, BWV 978, and the Concerto in C major, BWV 976, both arranged from Vivaldi's compositions. These pieces are followed by the Concerto in G major, BWV 973, another arrangement from Vivaldi. The second half of the album is dedicated to the works of George Frideric Handel, featuring the Organ Concerto No. 10 in D minor, Op. 7 No. 4 HWV 309, and the Organ Concerto No. 5 in F, Op. 4 No. 5 HWV 293, both arranged for harp and orchestra. The album concludes with the Harp Concerto in B-Flat Major, Op. 4 No. 6, HWV 294, a piece that highlights the harp's lyrical and expressive capabilities.

Nicanor Zabaleta, born in San Sebastián, Spain, in 1907, was one of the most renowned harpists of the 20th century. His interpretations of classical works are celebrated for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. In this album, Zabaleta's playing is accompanied by the Orchestre Paul Kuentz, conducted by Paul Kuentz, creating a harmonious blend of solo and orchestral performances.

"Bach / Handel: Harp Concertos" is a captivating journey through the Baroque era, offering a unique perspective on the works of two of the most influential composers in music history. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album promises a rich and rewarding listening experience.
