      Album Details

Evgeny Kissin's 1998 album is a captivating journey through the works of three classical music titans: Bach, Beethoven, and Schumann. The album opens with a transcendent rendition of Bach's Chaconne, masterfully transcribed by Ferruccio Busoni, showcasing Kissin's technical prowess and expressive depth. The piece, originally composed for solo violin, is a tour de force that demands both precision and passion, and Kissin delivers with aplomb.

Following the Bach-Busoni Chaconne, the album segues into two of Beethoven's most beloved piano works: the Rondo No. 2 in G Major, Op. 51, and the Rondo a capriccio, Op. 129. Kissin's interpretations are marked by their clarity and vitality, bringing out the playful and spirited nature of these compositions. His playing is both virtuosic and nuanced, offering a fresh perspective on these familiar pieces.

The second half of the album is devoted to Schumann's Kreisleriana, Op. 16, a cycle of eight pieces that explore a wide range of moods and emotions. Kissin's performance is a masterclass in dynamic control and emotional range, from the stormy intensity of the first movement to the delicate lyricism of the second. Each piece is imbued with a sense of individuality and character, making for a compelling and cohesive whole.

Throughout the album, Kissin's playing is characterized by its technical brilliance and emotional resonance. His interpretations are both respectful of the composers' intentions and infused with his own unique artistic vision. The result is a recording that is both intellectually stimulating and deeply moving, a testament to the enduring power of classical music and the artistry of Evgeny Kissin. Clocking in at just over an hour, this album is a perfect addition to any classical music lover's collection.
