      Album Details

Eduardo Fernandez presents a captivating collection of classical guitar concertos in this 1990 release, blending the works of three distinct composers. The album opens with Sir Malcolm Arnold's Guitar Concerto, Op. 67, a three-movement piece that showcases Fernandez's technical prowess and expressive depth. The Allegro, Lento, and Con brio movements offer a dynamic range, from the lively and rhythmic to the introspective and lyrical.

Next, Fernandez delves into the cultural heritage of Catalonia with Leo Brouwer's "Retrats Catalans." This two-movement suite pays homage to the Catalan composer Federico Mompou and the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí, capturing their unique artistic spirits through music. Fernandez's nuanced performance brings these portraits to life, highlighting the intricate interplay between tradition and innovation.

The album concludes with Herbert Chappell's "Caribbean Concerto," a vibrant and rhythmic piece that infuses classical guitar with the lively spirit of the Caribbean. The three movements—Vivace, (Nocturne) Andante, and Con brio—transport the listener to a tropical paradise, filled with the sounds of celebration and the gentle rhythms of the night.

Throughout the album, Fernandez is accompanied by the English Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Barry Wordsworth, providing a rich and supportive backdrop to his virtuoso performances. The combination of these works creates a diverse and engaging listening experience, showcasing the versatility and skill of Eduardo Fernandez as a guitarist and interpreter of classical music.
