      Aranjuez - Joaquín Rodrigo

      Album Details

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of Joaquín Rodrigo's masterful compositions with this exquisite album, "Aranjuez." Released in 2014 under the Mercury Classics label, this classical gem spans a full hour of enchanting melodies and intricate arrangements, showcasing Rodrigo's unparalleled genius.

At the heart of this album lies the iconic "Concierto de Aranjuez," a concerto for classical guitar and orchestra that Rodrigo composed in 1939. This piece, his most renowned work, is a symphony of Spanish folk music and classical elegance, featuring three captivating movements: "Allegro con spirito," "Adagio," and "Allegro gentile." Each movement is a testament to Rodrigo's ability to blend traditional Spanish themes with sophisticated orchestral techniques.

Beyond the "Concierto de Aranjuez," the album offers a rich tapestry of Rodrigo's other celebrated works. "Homenaje pour le Tombeau de Claude Debussy" pays homage to the French composer, while "Danza del Molinero" and "Invocación y danza" transport you to the vibrant streets of Spain. The album also features the complete "Fantasía para un gentilhombre," a four-movement suite that includes "Villano y Ricercare," "Españoleta y Fanfare de la Caballería de Nápoles," "Danza de las hachas," and "Canario."

Joaquín Rodrigo, despite being blind since the age of three, demonstrated extraordinary musical talent. His studies in Paris under the guidance of Paul Dukas further honed his skills, leading to the creation of these timeless pieces. This album is a celebration of his legacy, offering both seasoned classical enthusiasts and newcomers an opportunity to appreciate the depth and beauty of Rodrigo's compositions.
